How to Install a WordPress Theme to Customize Your Real Estate Blog Website

In my previous post ‘Grab your “Virtual Real Estate” with WordPress,’, I went over step-by-step approach on installing your first blog website using WordPress.

In this video, I go over various options when it comes to customizing the appearance of the blog by installing a new WordPress theme.

Here are the three options mentioned in the video:
1. Get a free theme from WordPress.org
2. Hire someone to customize your blog website.
3. Buy a premium theme. Here are my top three premium theme choices:
- StudioPress Genesis Theme
- WooThemes
- Thesis Theme.

I finally decided on StudioPress Genesis Theme. In this video, I go over the reasons why I chose this theme.

Grab your “Virtual Real Estate” with WordPress

The Internet right now is like the “Wild West” of the 19th century. I call it “virtual real estate.” NOW is the time to get a piece of your “virtual real estate” on the Internet by creating a simple WordPress blog / website.

Whether you are a real estate investor or a small business owner, watch this video if you do not have a website or blog. In this video, I go over three reasons or excuses that hold people back from having an online presence. I also show you a step by step approach on how to create your first website / blog using WordPress, the #1 blog publishing platform. A website doesn’t guarantee success but it will help promote your business online.

Here are some of the recommendations mentioned in the video:

WordPress (#1 Blog Publishing Platform. It can be easily customized and it’s FREE! All of my blogs and websites use WordPress.)
NameCheap (Recommended domain registry and includes privacy included with domain registration)
Bluehost (All of my websites are hosted on Bluehost. Very easy to use interface with 1-click WordPress installation and excellent customer service. I would highly recommend this web host for your first site.)
HostGator (Another good recommended web host)

(6/21/2011 Update – After the recording of this video, I decided to remove Godaddy as a recommendation. I still have some of my domains registered at Godaddy but after using Bluehost and NameCheap, I’ve decided to move my domains to keep my sanity.)

Do You Want More Leads and Referrals?

In this video, I discuss two situations that I come across often as a full-time real estate investor engaged in multiple marketplaces. These two situations are:
1) Leads outside of my marketplace and
2) Looking for professionals that work with real estate investors

1) I get leads from my marketing that come in from markets/states that I am not familiar or I don’t have presence there. Previously, I have tried to pursue the lead and I would spent the time to see if the deal is good but then I ended up spending way too much time and energy into a new market. Then I changed my practice to find another investor/buyer to wholesale the deal. This also took some time and energy although not as much time as previously. I then decided that the best use of my time is to focus on my markets and let go of those leads. However, those leads are worth something to other real estate investors in that specific market. Rather than letting go of those leads, if there was a place to post the leads so that another investor could potentially work with that lead, that would be a win-win situation for all parties.

2) When I am entering a new market or looking for specific professional, I have to put time and energy into looking for a professional (real estate investors, real estate agents, contractors, inspectors, title companies, etc) that work with real estate investors. If there was a central place where a real estate investor can find other contacts that work with real estate investors, it would provide a good starting point.

This facebook page can potentially solve these two situations. In additional this facebook page can provide a marketing venue for businesses (including Real Estate Agents, Home Inspectors, Appraisals, Title Companies/Attorneys, Contractors, Insurance Agents, Property Managers, Mortgage Brokers, Hard-Money/Private Lenders) that work with real estate investors.
